Emergency Door Release Procedure

Tools Needed:

  • Flat-head screwdriver
  • Flashlight
  • Clean towels
  • Bucket (optional)

Step-by-Step Door Release

  1. Power Off: Unplug the washing machine from the electrical outlet to ensure safety.
  2. Locate Access Panel: Find the small access panel at the bottom front of the washing machine, typically located below the door.
  3. Remove Access Panel: Use a flat-head screwdriver to gently pry open the access panel. Some models may require pressing tabs instead.
  4. Find Release Cord: Locate the emergency door release cord inside the access area. It's usually red or yellow and clearly marked.
  5. Pull Release Cord: Firmly pull the release cord straight down until you hear a click. This disengages the door lock mechanism.
  6. Open Door: Gently pull the door open. Be prepared for water if the cycle was interrupted mid-wash.
  7. Reset Door: Close the door firmly to reset the locking mechanism for normal operation.
Warning: Only use emergency door release when absolutely necessary. The machine may contain water and detergents that could spill out.

Common Scenarios

Power Interruption

If power goes out during a cycle, the door may remain locked. Use emergency release to access clothes, then restart cycle when power returns.

Cycle Completion Issues

Sometimes the door won't unlock after cycle completion due to sensor issues. Emergency release allows access while troubleshooting the sensor.

Forgotten Items

If you need to add forgotten items after cycle has started, emergency release provides access (note: this may interrupt the cycle).

Child Safety

Emergency release can be used if a child or pet accidentally gets locked inside (though this is extremely rare with modern safety features).
